Welcome to the Drug Infusion Blog

iAnesthesia LLC

Welcome! This blog is a companion to the Drug Infusion app — a place to think through the concepts behind infusion calculations in a calm, low-stakes setting. Everything here is educational only. Nothing on this blog is clinical guidance, and none of it should be used to make decisions about real patient care.

Why practice infusion math?

Infusion calculations show up constantly in critical care, and the arithmetic itself is rarely the hard part. What builds real confidence is repetition: seeing the same shapes of problems often enough that the setup becomes automatic. When the structure feels familiar, you can focus your attention where it matters.

What we'll cover

This blog works through the ideas behind the three calculation modes you'll find in the app:

  • Rate — translating a desired dose into an infusion rate in mL/hr.
  • Bolus — reasoning about a one-time volume from a target amount.
  • Dilution — understanding how concentration changes the numbers.

We'll also talk about the two-person verification habit: why an independent double-check is such a powerful safeguard, and how rehearsing it makes the real workflow feel second nature.

A note on practice

The goal is understanding, not memorization. Try working a problem two ways — once by reasoning through the units, and once by sanity-checking the result. If the two agree, your intuition grows. If they don't, you've found something worth slowing down on.

Practice the thinking, not just the answer.
